Colombia Sister Church

-->

Shalom's fellowship is not limited to four walls and a close knit group.  We also celebrate our connection with brothers and sisters near at hand and around the world.

One such celebration is the Sister Church relationship that we have with the Teusaquillo Mennonite Church in Bogota, Colombia. This friendship links our two congregations across many miles, and many experiences as a means of mutual support and to bring voice to the concerns of brothers and sisters who are enduring decades of brutal civil war. We are in fellowship for mutual care that we might be reminded of the full reality of being church together.

Colombia! Meet the people, experience the beauty.

Our purpose is first and foremost to live out the call be be body together.  The body of Christ cannot be bound by ideas of nationality or geography, but is called to share each others burdens  in all circumstance.  We continue to be in prayer for each other, visiting with each other to learn and to share our world together.

We also share ministry in a number of ways.  We cooperate in feeding programs. We speak out on matters of policy and of war and Peace. We support each other's ministries.  Most of all, we pray for each other and for the churches that God might use them to embody the kingdom of peace each in our own contexts.

Colombia Activities

Praying for Teasaquillo

We pray at all times for our brothers and sisters in Bogota.  There are some times, though, that we are brought to remember special events and want to pray for each other in special ways.  In early August, Juanita, a 14 year old girl was diagnosed with Leukemia.  Her condition rapidly deteriated and she passed away only days later.  While any death in a congregational family is notable, we know well how impacting the death of a child of the congregation can be.  We spent special time remembering Juanita, Ricardo, and Jenny (her parents) in prayer on Sunday August 7, 2011.

We bless the Lord who holds Juanita in his hands, now as always.  We pray peace for those who grieve so deeply the loss of one so young and so dear.

2011 Delegation

We had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from Teuaquillo in February 2011 for 2 weeks.  A Slideshow of the delegation trip is below  As there are many (thousands) of photos, these are relatively low resolution.  Contact the church for full resolution pictures.
